Update: Matter amicably resolved

FGASA has retracted its previous statement concerning Bushwise and IFGA and issued an unconditional apology to both organisations. FGASA acknowledged Bushwise and IFGA as respected organisations that make valuable contributions to the field guiding sector.

The statement also clarified that FGASA membership is voluntary, is not a requirement to work as a field guide in South Africa, and that FGASA is not currently recognised as a professional body by SAQA. You can read their full statement here.

Bushwise welcomes the statement and confirms that the matter has been amicably resolved. We look forward to working collaboratively towards strengthening the field guiding industry for all.

Bushwise responds to FGASA allegations

​Bushwise has been made aware of a press release issued today by FGASA, suggesting that Bushwise has infringed its claimed legal rights.

​Bushwise wishes to make clear that there is no evidence or basis whatsoever for this allegation, which appears to be an anticompetitive attempt by FGASA to harm Bushwise’s reputation.

​We are taking urgent advice from legal counsel on how to respond to this unprovoked attack on our good reputation, built up over 18 years.

​We believe that the field guiding sector is best served by fair and honest competition and would encourage all parties to adopt the same approach.
