Take 2 of 2014
This week saw a new group of arrivals here at the Bushwise Field Guides campus, all eager and ready to start their training to become fully qualified field guides. Tuesday was arrival day, with a large majority of our students arriving early during the day, and by 5pm, everyone had arrived, and all eager to get started! Wednesday was dedicated to settling in, with explanations of what to expect, how everything works and of course where everything is! Later that day, as we were sat around a beautiful Bushveld fire, we got to know each other a bit better. A good night indeed! Yesterday was spent in the lovely town of Hoedspruit, in order to get supplies and those all-important khaki uniforms.
Now, how can we go through a week, and not do a game drive? Crazy right? So after the trip to town, we loaded up our trusty landy’s, and set off, on the first of many game drives that are still to follow. Game drives are always amazing, but throw in some hyena cubs at a den, and two male cheetah, then it becomes awesome! Great sightings were had by all our groups, rounded off nicely with a coffee stop overlooking the majestic Drakensberg mountain range at sunset. As the saying goes, just another day in Africa!
Today has been focussed on another all important part of a guide’s career, preparing yourself to deal with any emergency situation. How do you do this, by doing a first aid course, of course! Thank you to Jan Heeres from Modjadji first aid, for sharing some of your life saving techniques with us!
As you can see, things got off to a rather busy start, but it is also safe to say that this week is not over yet, tomorrow morning will be the first lecture, and what better than what to expect from a career in the guiding world. A busy week, but just a small insight of what is still to come.
Welcome to Lisa from Scotland; Greg from Zimbabwe; Robbie, Josh, Jonathan, Francesca and Holly from England; Fiona and Iska from Germany/UK; Simon and Jurgen from Belgium; Stefan from the Netherlands and Jaq, Déan, Francois and Jennifer from South Africa. We look forward to having you all, and teaching you as much as we can!
Until Next Time,
Charles and The Bushwise Team
